Book Review – Secrets of the Millionaire Mind

I want to share with you someone who inspires me – T. Harv Eker.

I’ve studied his programs, and am also in his coaching. I believe his book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind will help you align your inner thoughts with your dreams enabling you to ignite your goals in 2019.

Don’t Believe A Word He Says

Harv says he only speaks from his own experience. It worked for him and gave him amazing results.

He has helped thousands and thousands of people around the world achieve their dreams. He recommends that if your life isn’t the way you want it right now, try following his advice and see how it works.

The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind is more than just money. Harv wants you to get wealthy so you can help other people lead better lives.

Helping Others Helps Yourself

Harv had about twelve businesses in fourteen years that failed. He finally talked with a friend of his father’s who helped him get the right mindset.

Harv then started an exercise equipment store with $2000 on a credit card and was able to sell the business two years later for $1.6 million.

Just before he started that business, he spent time evaluating all of his failures and looked for a system that would work. Then he prayed to the Universe that if he could make this business work, he would teach others to be a success.

And from there, his teaching empire grew.

But he first had to get the proper mindset.

What Is Your Mental Blueprint?

Your outer life is a reflection of your inner life. Just like a building is the reflection of it’s blueprint, who you are is generated by your mental blueprint.

If you believe you will be healthy and successful, you will. You’ll have a roll with the punches mindset.

Bob Proctor once said to look at problems as small matchboxes to step over instead of huge walls blocking your path.

Harv says that problems are opportunities. So first, you have to identify what your mental blueprint is, and how it’s affecting your life.

The Roots Create the Fruits

If your tree of success is producing lemons and you want apples, it won’t do you any good to remove all the lemons and tape up apples on the tree.

You first need to remove the roots of the lemon tree and plant an apple tree.

Your Financial Thermostat

You will earn as much as you believe you can earn. One example Harv gave was that if you are used to earning $60,000/year, you will do things that will ensure that you stay at $60,000/year until you adjust your inner thermostat.

We have a few of these pesky thermostats including how much we believe we should have in savings, and what we should weigh.

So if your financial life isn’t the way you want. try to find ways to increase your belief that you always have money in the bank, you have more than enough to get what you want, and that you receive a large amount every month. (Personalize it and fill in the blanks for your personal situation)

Incorporate these as declarations.

What Are Declarations?

Declarations are a powerful secret for change.

Harv wants you to put your hand over your heart to feel your vibration and speak out loud with confidence your declaration. Then you touch your head and declare “I have a millionaire mind!”

Some sample declarations are

  • My inner world creates my outer world.
  • I choose to surround myself with people who do not blame, justify, or complain.
  • How I do something is how I do everything.
  • I am a successful money manager.

State Your Declarations

You can incorporate these into your morning routine or your meditation.

The book goes in to a lot more detail about how to identify and re-design your money blueprint.

The Way of the Warrior

When Harv was a trainer, he would teach the Way of the Warrior.

The Warrior Way is to always take action. It’s to always be grateful. It’s to always be honest especially with yourself. A warrior always keeps their word.

In the book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, Harv expands these to the 17 beliefs that wealthy people have that poor people do not.

Most are a subtle shift. For example, wealthy belief number two is that rich people play the game to win but poor people play the game not to lose.

What would your life be if you played only to win? Would you be more adventurous? Would you take more risks? Would you commit to one path instead of changing when things got tough or something more exciting appeared to pop up?

Admire or Resent?

Wealthy habit number six is that rich people admire other rich and successful people, and poor people resent them.

This connects back to your mental blueprint. If you perceive wealthy people as being greedy or bad, then your subconscious will do everything in its path to keep you from success because it thinks you don’t want to become like that.

Neutralize the Negativity

Harv offers a number of ways to neutralize the negativity in your mind. First you have to become aware of it, and then you can neutralize it, and finally, you can replace it with a declaration.

Sometimes, though, the brain just won’t stop with the negativity! His favorite phrase is to say “Thank you for sharing.”

The voice in your head often just wants to be heard. But you don’t have to believe it. You don’t even have to act on it.

It’s similar to a ringing phone. You have the choice to answer or not.

What I Liked About the Book

I liked that I could read a section, put the book down, and spend some time thinking about it.

For example Harv points out that lack of money is a symptom of the problem and not the problem itself.

What I Didn’t Like About the Book

I wanted more! I loved the book’s stories and exercises that got me to take a step back and figure out where I was at and where I wanted to go.

His son Jesse seems to be stepping up, so perhaps we’ll see a book from the next generation soon.

Thankfully, he publishes regularly on his blog. You can read a 7-10 minute post about money and finance, well-being, personal development, and business.

My Final Thoughts

In order to obtain true change, you have to be aware of who you are now, and how you think. Journal your beliefs about money, wealth, rich people, and anything relating to your beliefs about your success.

Then meditate on understanding how these beliefs are affecting your life. Once you have that clarity, you can disassociate yourself from them by crafting declarations that will align your mental maps with where you want to be.

Finally, you need to feel completely grateful for who you are and where you’re at.

I highly recommend you obtain the book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth by T. Harv Eker at your local shop or online.

P.S. If you were wondering what the “T” is, it stands for “The.” He’s a very playful person which makes the book a fun read.
