Ignite Your Year – Goals Check In and Check Up

I hope these blog posts have been inspiring you to ignite your year. It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway done with 2018.

Now is a great time to take out your written goals and review if you’re on track to achieve them, or if you need to make some adjustments.

Review Your Goals to Ignite Your Year

Remember back in January I suggested you write out your goals to be your best in 2018? We spent time evaluating where you are right now, and then look at where you want to be.

Hopefully you wrote down your goals and regularly review them each week so you stay on track. If not, that’s something you can do moving forward.

I review my my long term and short term goals when I do my weekly review on Sunday afternoon. It helps me find the right tasks to be done next.

Achieving goals is a lot like driving at night. You know your final destination, and you can only see what’s directly illuminated in front of you by your headlamps.

One Step At A Time

Often we don’t achieve our goals because we’re too caught up either in overwhelm or the “dreaded how’s” (Thanks to Mike Dooley and his Playing the Matrix book for that phrase. You can find the book at your local store.)

When you do your weekly plan, try to focus on the next simple step you can do to move you forward.

Don’t try to think too far ahead.

It could be the next step after that is something you haven’t thought of yet that would make igniting your year a lot easier. So don’t get in your own way.

Choose to do baby steps that seem effortless.

Recommit, Refine, or Remove Goals

You have decided you want to ignite your year in all areas of your health, dreams, wealth, and soul. Often we get off track or we’re not as far along as we’d hoped.

That’s okay.

Sometimes we just need to recommit, refine, or accept that we don’t want that particular goal anymore and remove it.

For example, if you wanted to run a marathon in 2018 but you’re not able to run a mile yet, you will want to refine your goal. Does your community have a New Years Day fun run? Most are 10k with 5k options.

You could easily refine your goal to run the 5k with the 10k as a stretch goal.

Just take your time in getting there. Sometimes, if we push too hard, we can get injured and that derails us from our goal even longer.

Is It Your Dream?

If the goal is something you can achieve, then it’s important that you find a way to remind yourself regularly. And you should schedule something every week that will move you towards that goal.

And it’s important that you know when to let go of a goal that no longer sings to your soul.

Often we’ll want to do something for other people. We may not even be conscious of it.

Let’s say you wanted to lose some weight. But what if your reason was to be more attractive for someone else? Or to please a parent?

That’s not your goal.

That’s their goal for you.

So maybe you change your goal from a weight loss to improving your diet to include more fresh food in season. Commit to the goal of igniting your health by feeding yourself food that fuels your body.

Will you naturally lose weight? Probably. But the key is that you’re doing something for yourself that will then seem effortless to achieve.

How Do I Know When to Remove A Goal?

Sometimes you will want to drop a goal because it seems hard.

But that doesn’t mean you should remove it.  It could be something as simple as breaking it down into smaller intermediate goals.

Losing one pound isn’t as overwhelming as the idea of losing twenty or more pounds.

Neither is paying off $50 of credit card debt compared to the whole amount.

So spend some time evaluating your goals and asking if it’s too big of a bite, and if it’s something you truly want deep down.

Now let’s dive in to igniting your year in the different areas.

Ignite Your Health

How are you feeling?

Has your changes in diet and exercise helped you get more energy?

Or have you fallen pray to slipping back into some old habits?  That can happen to the best of us. One option is to change one thing each week so you slowly get back on the track you want to choose.

Another option is to do a body challenge. Right now, InnerOrigin has an 84 day body challenge hosted by Matt and Monica Thom. Every day, you will get a 2 minute video challenge on nutrition, exercise, or mindset to complete.

If you check out this link, you can read more about the program. There’s also a 2:33 minute video and an information brochure you can download answering your questions.

I think it could be great for you to have some inspiration to pull you back on track or elevate you to the next level.

Ignite Your Wealth

How is your money management going? Have you signed up for an online tool like Mint to track expenses?

Have you found ways to bring in additional money to help your plans?

And don’t forget to look for ways to cut expenses. What may have seemed like a good idea at the time may just be a money drain right now.

Ignite Your Dreams

Spend some time reviewing your journals if you have been keeping them. If you haven’t, now may be a good time to go to your local office supply store and find a lovely journal and some pens.

If you’ve been writing down your dreams, goals, fears, etc., then now is the time to analyze what has been consistently coming up.

Do you see any patterns?

What is really holding you back from igniting your life?

This isn’t easy because the answer usually is yourself. And that means you need to get honest about yourself, your life, and your habits.

The good news is that once you can clearly see your personal blocks, you can make plans to step over the blocks and get back on that path to success.

Ignite Your Soul

Have you been meditating or visualizing each day? Meditation will help you find your center and give you the strength and calm you need when things get crazy during the day.

You’ll also have a better attitude and perspective if you start your morning out strong. (Remember The Miracle Morning?)

Has your goal gotten clearer in your mind? Or do you visualize a different dream?

This can tell you if you need to refine your goal.

Quick Tips On Recommitting

First, set a firm date for your goal.

Get realistic with your time and how much you can schedule for achieving it each day.

Consider using an app on your smartphone to send you an alert each day reminding yourself of your goal.

Identify barriers and roadblocks. For example, maybe you’re holding yourself back because you need to find out some information, and you haven’t made time for it yet. We all have silly little things like that. Well, use the 5 Second Rule and get that information, and then make that decision.

Be consistent with moving towards your goal. If you want to write a novel, you should write every single day. The words will flow better than if you wait until you have “enough time” to write it. (Remember, the perfect time never happens.)

If money wasn’t an issue, would you still pursue your original goal?

My Final Thoughts

Where do you want to be by the end of the year? You still have time to achieve a lot.

Did you know that the online superstore Amazon was created in 90 days?

Maybe now is the time to go back and review The ONE Thing and The 10X Rule to get inspired to make some big goals happen over the next few months.

I also want you to celebrate the goals you’ve achieved already this year. (And don’t say “Oh I didn’t achieve anything.” I know there have been some things to celebrate.)

It’s important to reinforce your victories.

Often you’ll hear about only looking forward. But sometimes, it can be good to look back and reflect on just how far you’ve come. And well done.

It also will help motivate you to continue.

If I were there, I’d give you a big hug.  Well done! Now let’s go see what we can do over the next six months!

Leave a comment with your achievements so we can all celebrate with you.
